Election to The Insurance Hall of Fame

May 10, 2000

Dr. José Piñera
President
International Center for Pension Reform
Santiago, Chile

Dear José:

On behalf of our Honors Committee, and all the members of the insurance community worldwide, it is my great pleasure to formally inform and congratulate you on your election to The Insurance Hall of Fame. This is the highest honor that the Society can bestow on any individual in the world, and you are certainly well deserving of it.

Under the existing procedures of the Society, two laureates are elected by our membership each year to The Insurance Hall of Fame. The Honors Committee of the Society, at its meeting earlier this year, selected ten candidates to appear on the ballot. This ballot was then distributed to approximately 800 members who are eligible to vote and who reside in over 70 countries.  Arthur Andersen mailed the ballot and tabulated the results.

The other candidate who was elected to The Hall of Fame is Dr. Hans Gerling of Germany. While he died in 1991, he is one of the most famous insurance personalities in Europe and The Gerling Group is the only insurance enterprise in the world which is managed as a family owned undertaking. I believe his son will accept the award on his behalf.

Our Formal Awards Ceremony and Dinner will take in The Vancouver Convention and Exhibition Centre Ballroom on the evening of July 10. I am sure there will be over 600 people in attendance from over 50 countries.

Again, José, congratulations on your election to The Insurance Hall of Fame.

With my best personal regards.

Sincerely,

John P. Meyerholz
President and Chief Executive Officer
International Insurance Society
